Asklepiio was the center for the treatment of serious diseases for the whole of Ancient Greece. As the site attracted large numbers of pilgrims and patients, the surrounding area developed rapidly. At the end of the Classical Age (330 BC) the ancient theater was also built, the most perfect and famous ancient Greek theater, which combines elegance with perfect acoustics. It had a capacity of about 150,000 spectators and its harmony is due to its unique design. In 1988, the theater was included, along with the entire Asklepiion, on the Unesco World Heritage List.
