Just one hour drive from beautiful Gythio is the epic city pf Sparta and the atmospheric castle town of Mystras. Your driver will pick you up from your hotel in Gythio and drive you to Sparta, where you will meet your professional licensed guide (optional). You will tour around the city learning details about it’s rich history and you will visit the archaeological museum, with objects of the great sanctuaries of Sparta and findings from Neolithic to Roman times.
You will also visit the Museum of Greek Olive Oil, which will take you through the culture, history and technology of olive and olive oil production in Greece, from the prehistoric times up until the beginning of the 20th century.
Just 5 kms from Sparta is Mystras, the last stronghold of Hellenism before the Ottoman conquest. Great post-Byzantine churches, palaces and ruinous walls, will travel you back in time, in this Unesco World heritage listed monument.
A stop for lunsh in a traditional tavern in the village under the castles is an excellent option before your return to Gythio.
